The Assault SMG is a weapon in The Ballad of Gay Tony and Grand Theft Auto V. In the latter, it appears as a bonus weapon for Rockstar Games Social Club members. In The Ballad of Gay Tony, it is introduced in the mission Chinese Takeout.
The Assault SMG is fairly accurate, has a respectable fifty round magazine and has a more stopping power than the two original SMG's form Grand Theft Auto IV. Overall, it appears to be superiour to both the Micro SMG and the SMG. But unlike the latter two, the Assault SMG cannot be used by the driver of a vehicle. Due to this trait, it may lose some value in the later stages of the game, when assault rifles are common and SMG's are mainly used for said drive-bys. However, in the early stages in can be invaluable as a poor man's assault rifle.
The Assault SMG is fitted with a semi functional suppressor. While it reduces the amount generated noise or visible muzzle flash, it does not appear to have a significant influence on the reaction of NPCs: pedestrians will still flee as normal, and the police will respond.
It is based on the Belgian FN P90.
Trivia
- In the You'll Always Be the King of this Town trailer, Luis can be seen firing a Assault SMG without suppressor. This may imply that the suppressor was added in the later stages of development, reinforced by the lack of a cutout for the suppressor in the back of Armando's SUV.
